Time for something new

Well I think everyone has come down from their Grey Cup high. It took some longer than others. Apparently Jordan was off his high when as soon as we went outside after the game. So now we can move on from the Grey Cup and leave that glorious experience behind and focus on more pressing issues, such as: What the hell is wrong with the Leafs?

The Leafs are once again at best mediocre this year. They are hovering around .500 and if it continues probably won't make the playoffs for the 3rd straight year. Here is what could help.

Not call your GM a mistake and regret you ever hired him midway through the season. That is always bad for morale.

Stop trading your draft picks away for washed up players who will play for the rest of the season then retire just because they want to end their careers in Toronto.

Actually draft someone with talent and use them.

Don't trade for a starting goalie so you can have two starters and change them every game. This makes them fear for their jobs and play shitty. Just trade Raycroft and be done with him.

Get some defencemen that know how to play defence.

"get some defencemen that know how to play defence"

very good point.

perhaps add...

-get a goalie that knows how to stop the puck

-get some forwards that know how to score

-draft good players(oh wait you got that)

really, your insight is outstanding.

I was off my high? Obviously not. I was running down that street crazier than you, fucktard. I also had the common decency to not throw up and prove to everyone that Rider fans can drink a little more than a couple beers and a tequila shot.

Anyway, this article was terrible. First off, you are right...the Leafs are underachieving and something needs to be done eventually.

But hey, they just won 3 in a row. Toskala is playing great lately and the team is allowing fewer and fewer goals.

As for Peddie admitting that the hiring of JFJ was a mistake...that was wrong to say. It's true. But not something you should bring up at this point in time. Is it bad for morale? Not really. I don't really see who would give a fuck, besides JFJ. But in his defense, JFJ has done a decent job, some signings were pretty boneheaded, but most didn't turn out because of bad luck. I mean, really...the Leafs are one of the most talented teams on paper, but they can't seem to win.

Another common bitching point about the Leafs are their inability to keep their high draft picks. This is well documented and you are right for bringing that up. But I wouldn't add on that they don't draft people with talent. Doesn't really make sense when you JUST said they never keep their high picks. If your taking your first pick in the 3rd or 4th round...don't expect miracles, Marc. I'm amazed that they have had some young guys come up especially when they have been in those kind of drafting situations to begin with. Wellwood? Stajan? White? Wellwood was a 5th rounder. Stajan was 2nd (Decent pick, since that draft was BRUTAL past the 1st round) and White was a 6th rounder. I mean, they could have done a bit better, but it isn't like they have drafted retards lately (except Colaiacovo). The players make the team and contribute.

Tlusty is never going to be an all-star, but he can play. Again, good pick for the position they had. Though, I am in complete agreement that the Leafs should concentrate more on the draft in the future.

Trade Raycroft? If that were possible, they would have done it already. The dude makes a lot of money (after all, he was the Leafs starter the year prior) and would be hard to move. The Leafs view was to just keep both goalies and hopefully have a killer tandem this year. Rather than dump Raycroft for peanuts (which actually still proved to be difficult, due to his contract). Raycroft is kind of biting ass so far, but he did have a 2.99 GAA last year with the Leafs going through the same issues as this year. He is still talented.

In the end, Leafs just can't win. In games and in the draft. They just seemed to get hosed. I think the trade for Toskala was great. They need to keep him. But I think they should do a quiet rebuild and try to bring in younger players with upside and try to keep their budget in check so that they can get creative at trade deadlines.

Leafs need to get a system in place to protect the shot count against them. Cover the net, play tighter. Maurice is a great coach, but either he's retarded or the players are. At this point I think its a bit of both.

well...that was obscenely long.

imagine if you put half the effort of your commenting into making posts.

Jesus...can't believe I read all of it. Please don't say that the Leafs are "one of the most talented teams on paper". I honestly don't think they have much talent other than Sundin, McCabe (decides to sleep on occasion at the blue line), and Kaberle. I guess you could add Raycroft in there, but he's so emotionally fucked up from the criticism he takes that he's going to kill himself. He doesn't seem like a guy that responds well to bad press, or any type of pressure put on him...

wow jordan. thats all i got. you clearly know more about it than i do. maybe you should just write for me.

I find more joy in pointing out things I don't like in other people's posts than writing my own. I find I have more motivation.

I don't really see why the Leafs aren't considered one of the best teams on paper. They obviously suck balls, but don't be biased. They have a team that SHOULD be good, but when you see the collection of fuck-ups that happen each game, you automatically assume they blow all -around. Not really, though.

What about Toskala? Even as a back-up he was touted as one of the league's best. And I know I defended Raycroft, but he should not be in your list. Jason Blake could have been on it, if he played anything like he did last year. Antropov is an automatic for that list too, one of the few bright spots on the team right now, regardless of his past.

Haha, besides, can you even name that many players of worth on half of any other team in the NHL? I think that would prove that the Leafs do have a decent team that is underachieving.

Inbred Nation said...

Yeah but you're basing all of your talent on shit that hasn't happened or happened too long ago. Antropov has been shitty for so long, and has finally pulled his head out of his ass. Good for him, but he still isn't talented. As for Toskala, being known as one of the league's best backups doesn't make you all that talented. It puts you in the top 20-25 goalies in the league at best. Jason Blake was diagnosed with leukemia...it may sound harsh, but that will take away from your talent.

The only reason you consider them talented on paper is because you follow minor hockey more than the rest of us. You know that they SHOULD be good when they get to the NHL, but it turns out the Leafs are good at making those players shitty. Just a bunch of guys not living up to the potential appointed to them a long time ago.

Nazi Synthesizer said...

Shut your stupid fucking pie hole. Antropov is talented. Have you seen his stats this year? Dude is point per game pace. If you watched even one Leaf game all year, you'd know that he's turned a corner. I will concede that it did take him a bit too long to start using his size to his advantage. Played like a bitch for too many years.

Do you even know who Vesa Toskala is? He hasn't been a backup all his life, in fact he took San Jose to the playoffs when Nabokov got injured not long ago. He stood on his fucking head, and has since. Especially with shit-terrible team defense in front of him in Toronto.

Nazi Synthesizer said...

This is kind of weird. I don't even like the Leafs, but I'm defending them. Fuck it.

Just felt like I should. Since watching them play this year, I actually do notice those two things...Antropov is playing like the Leafs thought he was going to when they drafted him and Toskala is playing great in net...sometimes seeing a retarded amount of shots...and his team lets him down. Really the only two things I want to say about the whole thing. And that that the Leafs bite as much taint as the Islanders. Who have a considerably worse team at first glance.

Inbred Nation said...

They still aren't that fucking talented. Antropov is still a piece of shit and Toskala is a backup...unless you consider less than 40 starts a year a starter. That would make you retarded. Are you retarded?

Nazi Synthesizer said...

Toskala is not a backup in Toronto. Has more starts than Raycroft, and will by seasons end. They would be playing Toskala 90% of the time if they would let themselves have a high paid waste sit on their bench...but the Leafs are too damn proud to do that. Besides, San Jose traded him because they knew they had 2 starting goalies on hand. It was also well-documented that wherever Toskala would end up, he was going to be the starter.

Antropov rocks too. I bet you 10 bucks he does the same greatness next year.

WallyMS said...

Toskala is a starter and now looks to be the starter for the Leafs. He has started 11 of the last 12 games and is finally playing like he can. Raycroft is pretty much relgated to backup duties. Antropov has finally gotten his shit together. You see that hat-trick last thursday?

From the looks of it now the leafs have finally stopped the ship from sinking and have finished all the repairs and seem poised to finally make the playoffs this year. They just need to be smarter with the puck when they are on the power play. Maurice will straighten them up.

So from the looks of I just may have 4 of my 5 favorite teams bring home the championship. All in all not a bad year if it happens.

Inbred Nation said...

I will take that bet Jordan

Nazi Synthesizer said...

Haha that will never happen, Marc.

Perfect proof that this thread has gone on long enough...when it was posted Marc was bitching about how terrible the Leafs are, by the end they have turned things around.

Or maybe thats just a typical Leaf fan freaking out because their beloved hockey club lost a fucking game. Fire Maurice! Trade Sundin! Blah blah blah blah blah.

Bets on. And yes...I did see that hattrick last Thursday. Did you Lindsey?

Inbred Nation said...

Fuck off. Umberger had a hattrick the other day...clearly it's not that tough to do

Nazi Synthesizer said...

Well yeah...when Dany Sabourin/Ty Conklin are in net. Not exactly a hard thing to do when that situation arises.

Jordan sucks donkey dick

I agree completely.

Hey give him a break, he probably just didn't want to make an account.

Jordan = cat fucker

Nazi Synthesizer said...

Haha. Make an account...

Like anyone besides us read this thing regularly...let alone post.

Since I said I would fuck the dude's cat (and him)...its pretty redundant to put "Jordan = cat fucker". But of course you're a fucking riot and that was so funny.

Clock Cleaner said...

are you suggesting its not funny that you fuck cats?

because it most definitely is.

don't be angry because someone has come across your beastiality fetish

Man, you're just not being funny. At all. It's not me "having anything". There's no point in thinking anything up, when you're popping out gems like..."you fuck cats!". HAHAHAHAHAHA.
