Tomorrow is the big day gaming fans. The much anticipated and vigorously (read: not at all) advertised GTA IV is being released tonight at midnight. It is predicted to sell 9 million copies in its first week and shatter the record set by Halo 3 last fall. (Thats right I get my gaming fix from CBC). My question to you is how many of you are going to pick it up tonight at Midnight? How many of you are going to buy it tomorrow? And, how many of you are going to spend the next week in your basement playing GTA IV? I probably would be, but I'm gonna wait until I get home.
BTW, does anyone know if there is gonna be online co-op? I can't wait for more 1 on 1 basketball games.

I might rent it.
I was thinking about it. But I think I think I should trade in to get it. I never wait outside a store the night before a product comes out...ever. But I was wondering through the mall today and saw the sign outside the store. Briefly thought about it, but wasn't serious. I might get it, if its as good as I hope. We'll see.
update: just checked the review on gamespot...got the rare 10/10. Wow. This one might be worth picking up. 16 player online multiplayer? best GTA ever, by far? sounds sick.
I went to go pick it up shortly after midnight thinking it wouldn't be too bad at EB, but there were about 150 people in line. Fucking madness.
Ya I heard on the radio this morning that were lots of sites giving it 10s and 9.9s. Though I don't really trust Gamespot so much now after GameGate. Plust they tend to give higher ratings. IGN usually has lower ratings because they play it more than 4 hours before they review it.
But if what you say about the 16 player multi-player online is true than it sounds promising. I'm gonna wait till I get home, but I am leaning towards purchasing it.
Here is a review I just read on CBC:

Gamespot gives better reviews than IGN. IGN is fucking horrible.
Gamespot gives more favourable reviews, yes.
Huh? Marc...IGN consistently gives higher reviews than gamespot. I can't even fathom why you'd say that. Of course there will be some exceptions...but IGN tends to overrate games. Gamespot is committed to not doing that...well, not for long maybe, but still. Mainly because almost the entire Gamespot staff quit because one reviewer gave Kane and Lynch a 6.0 and the developing company of the game pressured Gamespot into firing him. This is apparently because Gamespot is noticing that negative reviews do not help with advertisers. But even since they left...Gamespot's reviews have been still pretty good. I'm not sure if I put much stock into that story. Still...even then, IGN overrates a lot.
Anyways, so far the reviews have been at 10/10 for the PS3 version and 9.9/10 for the 360 version. Why, I don't know since the government blocks all the important sites.
Here is some interesting tidbits:
In London a guy was stabbed at the launch of GTA IV. The kicker is he was walking past the line and some dude in the line stabbed him. I'm guessing he butted him in line.

Last weekend, 2 dozen people were shot in Chicago and a Fox News affiliate (no surprise there) blamed the violence specifically on GTA IV ads on the side of city buses.

Gamespot does not give high ratings often. A 9.0 is considered a major accomplishment, and not too many games get it. I rarely find Gamespot's reviews to be inaccurate. Also, I don't read IGN because I read 2-3 reviews a while ago and I found them horribly wrong.
And about the 9.9 for X360, 10 for PS3, it's probably because load times are faster on the PS3. Other than that they're virtually the same.
Agreed with the PS3/360 difference. Gamespot tends to take that into account for their ratings. They had to alter their rating for Lost Odyssey for 360 because the copy they received from the developer had ridiculously fast load times...and the actual retail game was slow as fuck. Clever by the developer, but did not work.
But ya, Marc...seriously. IGN is not very good. Gamespot is way more thorough and accurate. They have been at it for upwards of 10 years. The staff they (usually) have there is top-notch apparently...as I'm sure a job with Gamespot is way more prestigious than with IGN. Not bashing IGN at all...but they don't compare.
Wtf is with the deleted posts? Explain!
Things may have changed in the 4 months since ive been here but I always thought IGN was decent. But I also always went to Gamespot first. I got no beef with either, I just like to get different opinions. But thats mostly for games that look promising. Those games I just rent anyways. All the games that I have bought, I bought regardless of what the review was going to be. Although my games were all rated well anyway.
Anyone pick it up yet?
I don't see why they don't compare. They are both websites that preview and review video games. If you can't compare that what can you compare?
Not saying that they aren't both websites that review games...just that the quality doesn't compare.
Btw, nothing changed Marc. You could have pointed this out 4 months ago and would have gotten the same answers. Not that it matters. Go to IGN, I do sometimes. Its not unreadable.
If I play a game before ever seeing a review for it...and then check it later at Gamespot...and don't understand why it got that high or that low...I will sometimes (almost never) go to IGN and see how they compare. About it. I prefer Gamespot's layout too...better internet feng shui, if that makes sense.
